systematise your business

The entrepreneur who founded the start-up, drew up a business plan and launched the business will probably want to grow the company and when that point is reached he will need to convey not just his vision but his way of doing things to others. This is the point at which he must put systems in place.

Small businesses are centred around a small team, who of necessity have to work together efficiently to help grow the business. With growth, of course, come more complexity, greater staff numbers and greater opportunities for mistakes and duplication of work. Having a formal system in place minimises mistakes, helps staff to work more efficiently and means that the entrepreneur can be assured that things will run smoothly in his absence.

You can do your own telemarketing. Many people do, for cost reasons, or because they don’t think an external agency could understand the product, market and customer needs the way they do.

the system:

Well-developed systems co-ordinate a whole lot of things, from small to big, employees, clients, finances, day-to-day production, targets for manufacturing or selling, pricing, logistics, billing and of course returns as profits.

sky is the limit:

In larger organisations well organised systems may be managing people and processes worldwide. These systems have to be flexible enough to grow as the business does but also detailed enough for each employee to know where their roles and responsibilities fit, as well as robust enough to continue working through crises, management changes and times of corporate upheaval such as mergers and acquisitions.

small business specific systems:

A well-developed system can bring multiple benefits to the small business and can cover anything from customer service to claiming expenses. Everyone from new employees to specialists gets to know what each has to do, where, when and how. At the same time, in a small business there is always room for innovation and suggestions for improvement where thoughtful employees can change company systems based on their own experiences of using them, resulting in a win-win situation for both them and the business as a whole.

systems lead to continued success:

Whether the owner or any key employee is present or not, a well designed system provides the surest way to continued success in small business, through the adoption of effective business plans that meet or exceed the expectations of all stakeholders. Having systems in places does not guarantee business success but certainly makes the journey to success much easier.
